Reading for Pleasure

At Highfields, we believe that is incredibly important that children develop a love of reading and find books and authors that they enjoy reading. Each month, a 'book of the month' is introduced to the children and copies purchased for each year group so the children are able to choose to read them.

Reading Policies

At Highfields, we deliver a consistent approach to phonics when teaching reading. We use the Little Wandle programme to ensure children become fluent readers. Once fluent, children then start Book Talk sessions. This is a consistent approach to reading that allows children to develop their comprehension skills during structured sessions focussing on reading a range of books.
