Young Carers

Sandwell Young Carers is a charitable organisation set up in 1994. The aim of the charity is to provide support and short breaks to children and young people whose lives have been affected as a result of their caring role.

Young Carers can spend a lot of time looking after a family member (usually a parent or sibling) who is chronically ill, experiencing a mental illness, has alcohol and substance abuse related difficulties, has a physical illness or is diagnosed with HIV or AIDS.

As well as physical support around the house and with the cared for person young carers offer a lot of emotional support to the person they help care for. The young person will either be a primary or secondary carer.

As a result of this caring role young carers may feel they need some time to themselves. This is where Sandwell Young Carers can help you. We offer support and short breaks to Young carers between the ages of 5-18 years of age.

Sandwell Young Carers is working with your school to help identify and support young carers within the school. At Highfields Mrs Elaine Adams is the young carers lead. This means that you can go to Mrs Adams for more information or support.
