Reading

In Reception, your child will be given a reading wallet. In this reading wallet, you will find: a library book to share, a reading diary and a phoneme keyring. These all need to be returned every Tuesday in the wallet. Your child will choose a new library book and they will be assessed on the phoneme keyring. Children must say all sounds correctly and independently before moving onto the next set.

Your child will be allocated an e-reader each week, that is suitable for their reading level. They will have read this book in school already. During Autumn 1, all books will be wordless. These are important books to look at, as children begin to develop pre-reading skills, such as oral blending, story telling and how a book is laid out.

Your child's first e-reader will not be allocated until Autumn 1 Week 5. Books will be allocated every Friday.

Alternatively, you can download the Collins eBooks app.

Their login details can be found on a sticker inside their reading diary, which they will bring home once they have started reading in school.
