Beyond the Great Wall

This term, pupils embark on an exciting journey to China through our topic, Beyond the Great Wall. We begin with a stunning start, exploring the art of Chinese calligraphy and comparing a typical Chinese school day with our own.

In English, we read Spilled Water, using the text to develop our reading and writing skills.

In Music, we learn about pentatonic scales, perform traditional-inspired melodies and compose our own pieces on the glockenspiel.

In Geography, we use maps to locate key places in China and carry out a research project on a chosen location.

In History, we investigate the fascinating Shang Dynasty and use Chromebooks to create engaging digital presentations to showcase our learning.

In Art, we develop our sculpting skills by creating impressive 3D mythical Chinese beasts using wire and Mod Roc.

Through this topic, pupils deepen their understanding of China's rich culture, history and geography while developing their creativity, research skills and confidence with technology.
